  The Village of Harrison Hot Springs is making this information available in accordance with Section 89 of the Local Government Act:

  Section 89(9) of the Local Government Act states that “A person who inspects or otherwise accesses nomination documents under this section must not use the information included in them except for the purposes of this Act or purposes authorized by Section 63 [restrictions on use of personal information] of the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.”

Elector Qualifications

• Am I a Resident Elector?

  If you live within the Village of Harrison Hot Springs municipal boundaries, you are a resident elector.  To qualify you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day; and
  • be a Canadian citizen; and
  • be a resident of British Columbia  at least for six (6) months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • be a resident of the municipality; and
  • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in a by-election and not otherwise disqualified by law.
• Am I a Non-Resident Property Elector?

  If you own property within the Village of Harrison Hot Springs but live outside the municipal boundaries, you are a non-resident elector. To qualify you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day; and
  • be a Canadian citizen; and
  • be a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • be a registered owner of real property in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for at least thirty (30) days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
  • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in a by-election and not otherwise disqualified bylaw; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

  Proof of Ownership of the Property Is Required, such as:

  • Land Title Office Title Search
  • Village of Harrison Hot Springs Property Tax Notice
  • BC Property Assessment Notice

Voter Registration

• What identification is valid?

  Qualified electors are required to produce two pieces of identification to prove both residency and identity (at least one must provide a signature).

  Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Driver’s Licence
  • Identification Card issued by the Government of BC or Canada
  • Photo BC Services Card
  • Non-photo BC Services Card
  • Vehicle insurance papers
  • BC Care Card
  • Provincial Social Assistance FORM SDES8
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Citizenship Card
  • Property Tax Notice
  • Credit card or debit card
  • Utility bill such as coaxial cable services, electricity, gas, telephone services, water

  If an elector does not have two pieces of identification, they may produce at least 2 documents that provide evidence of the applicant's identity, at least one of which must contain the applicant's signature, and make a solemn declaration as to the applicant's place of residence.

Voting Opportunities

• Advance Voting Opportunity

  The Village of Harrison Hot Springs holds one (1) Advance Voting Opportunity as required by the Local Government Act. The Advance Voting Opportunity will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Hall, 290 Esplanade Avenue. 

• General By-Election Day

  The General Voting Opportunity will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Hall, 290 Esplanade Avenue. 

Mail Ballot Voting

• Who Can Vote By Mail?

  The deadline to apply for a mail ballot package was September 13, 2024 and has now passed. No further mail ballot applications are being accepted.

  Mail ballot voting is available for all electors of the Village of Harrison Hot Springs.

• Who Is Eligible to Vote?

  You are allowed to vote if you are:

  • a resident elector (ie.  you live in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs), OR
  • a non-resident property elector (ie. you live elsewhere in BC but own property in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs)
• Elector Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day September 21, 2024;
  • Canadian citizen;
  • a resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
  • resident on the day of registration OR registered owner of real property in the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in a by-election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

  Application for Mail Ballot

  Resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

  Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from a majority of the registered owners stating that the elector is an owner of the property, and is designated as the Non-Resident (Property) Elector for that property.

• How Do You Register to Vote?

  You must register at the time of filling in your ballot.

• Requesting a Mail Ballot Package

  The deadline to apply for a mail ballot package was September 13, 2024 and has now passed. No further mail ballot applications are being accepted.

  If you wish to vote by mail and in order to obtain a mail ballot, you must submit an application form with the information as listed below by 4:00 pm on September 13, 2024. The application form is available at the Village Office, 495 Hot Springs Road, Harrison Hot Springs, BC, or may be downloaded by clicking the following link:

  Application for Mail Ballot

  (1) Full name,

  (2) Residential address,

  (3) Address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors),

  (4) Requested method of delivery of your mail ballot package:

  • pick up at Village Office, OR
  • regular letter mail through Canada Post to residential address, OR
  • regular letter mail through Canada Post to an alternate address that you provide when requesting the ballot package, and

  (5) To ensure you receive the correct registration application in your package, you must indicate whether you are going to be registering as a resident or non-resident property elector.

  The Village of Harrison Hot Springs will send out mail ballot packages commencing on or about September 3, 2024  Delivery arrangements for ballot packages are the responsibility of the elector and completed ballots must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00 p.m. on General Voting Day, Saturday, September 21, 2024.
