
- The Village presented Robert Reyerse, former Executive Director of Tourism Harrison River Valley, with a commemorative plaque for his contributions to tourism and visitor experience throughout the region.
- Sgt. Andy Lot & Insp. Darren Pankratz from the Agassiz and Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachments (RCMP), presented the 2024 Annual Policing Report. In 2024, there was a 30% decrease in property crime compared to 2023 – the largest decrease since 2012.
- The Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society shared information on the Agassiz-Harrison Museum’s legacy and collective future. New programming and events will be launching soon, visit the museum’s website for more info.
- Council voted unanimously to support the Fraser Valley Invasive Species Society’s invasive mussel monitoring program. Council also resolved to contact the Federal Minister of Labour to express a desire to maintain our community post office, and referred correspondence regarding bylaw amendments to address safe disposal of cigarette debris to staff for further research.
- Council approved the Communities in Bloom Committee’s request to register for the Communities in Bloom program under the evaluation category, “Grow”, with a focus on enhancement. Stay tuned for future projects this spring and summer in the Village.
- Council approved a recommendation to appoint a member of the Harrison-Agassiz Chamber of Commerce to the Resort Development Strategy Committee. The goal of this Committee is to develop ideas for proposed projects to be funded by the provincial Resort Municipality Initiative.
- The Village’s Interim Housing Needs Report was accepted for submission to the Ministry of Housing. View the report here.
- We’re excited to announce that an Emergency Preparedness Resource Guide will soon be finalized for residents. This guide will support residents in knowing the phases of emergency management, and what to expect in the event of an emergency. It will be posted on our website and available in print form at our office in the near future. In the meantime, visit the Village’s Emergency Management page here.
- A mock emergency activation tabletop exercise has been scheduled. During this exercise, a test alert will be sent out to the public using Alertable. Alertable is one of the communications tools that the Village would utilize in the event of an emergency. Stay tuned for more information and register for Alertable here.
- A new Advisory Planning Commission Bylaw was given first three readings after having been referred to the Advisory Planning Commission for comment.
- A bylaw to establish policies and procedures for requiring Development Approval Information was adopted.
- The 2025-2029 Financial Plan will be presented at an open house on March 3, 2025, at 10:00am at Memorial Hall. More information will be available on our website soon.
- New Business: The Village will be looking into options for resident parking passes, exploring geese population management strategies, and researching municipal procurement policies that support local and/or Canadian suppliers.
