
- The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Village by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for 2023. Council congratulated the Chief Financial Officer, Scott Schultz, and his staff on receiving this achievement once again.
- Staff will be investigating options for hosting a Hazardous Waste Collection Day for residents as recommended by the Environmental Advisory Committee.
- Bylaw enforcement services in the Village will be increasing to full time hours from May to September at a cost of up to $12,000 to be funded from surplus. Don’t forget that you can submit a bylaw enforcement complaint quickly and easily using our online portal.
- Council provided statutory consent to Fraser Valley Reginal District Sub-Regional Transit Service Area Amendment Bylaw No. 1757, 2024.
- Staff will be submitting a Transportation and Utility Use application to the Agricultural Land Commission for the parcels of land located along McCombs Drive (PID 002138-123 and PID 013-166-891), to identify potential recreational and eco-tourism opportunities.
- The Harrison Community Garden Society will be leasing the land it is currently occupying, owned by the Village, at the corner of Chestnut Avenue and McCombs Drive for the next ten years. A beautification project consisting of wooden art pieces installed on the fence will be coming soon, in partnership with the Age-Friendly Committee!
- Council voted in favour of granting a Development Permit for a 28-unit condo building with underground parking at 728 Hot Springs Road, subject to an additional condition requiring the applicant to submit a traffic flows and patterns report.
- Two Public Hearings will be held in the near future after Council’s initial consideration last night of three separate bylaws that would rezone 285 Spruce Street from R2 (Duplex) to R3 (Small Lot), and rezone 442 Lillooet Avenue from R3 (Small Lot) to C1 (Village Centre) and redesignate it from Medium Density Residential to Village Centre in the Official Community Plan. Details of the hearing(s) will be on our website, notice boards and sent via post office newsletter once available.
- Three new bylaws were adopted including:
- Waste Collection and Disposal Amendment Bylaw No. 1222, 2025
- Miscellaneous Fee Amendment Bylaw No. 1224, 2025
- Bylaw Notice Enforcement Amendment Bylaw No. 1223, 2025
- Two new members were appointed to the Communities in Bloom Committee. The Committee will have a booth at the upcoming “Earth Day in May” event and is planning a beach clean-up day for later this spring!
- Councillor Vidal introduced a Notice of Motion to waive the special event fees for the 2025 Terry Fox Run in the Village. This will be up for discussion at the next Regular Council Meeting.
